December 8, 2024
Introducing Old Capital Trail 35KM — linking heritage and endurance
February 15, 2025The Himam Trail Run Race returns for its 6th Edition, set to take place from 11 to 13 December 2025 across Oman’s spectacular Al Hajar mountain range. The event continues to redefine trail running in the Middle East, blending world-class organisation with Omani authenticity, culture, and community spirit.
Over the years, the Himam Trail Run Race has evolved from a local endurance challenge into one of the region’s most respected trail-running events, attracting participants from more than 60 countries. With each edition, the race has showcased Oman’s unique ability to combine adventure and heritage — making it a must-do destination for runners seeking both challenge and discovery.
The 2025 edition will feature four distinct race categories designed for various experience levels:
The Hajar ULTRA (120KM) — a true test of endurance across steep ridges and remote mountain terrain.
Skyward Canyon (60KM) — a demanding yet scenic route that captures the essence of Oman’s canyons and wadis.
Old Capital Trail (35KM) — connecting historic pathways between Nizwa and Birkat Al Mouz.
Scenic Sprint (20KM) — a gateway race perfect for new trail runners and adventure seekers.
What makes the Himam experience unique is its deep connection to the land and its people. Each route passes through mountain villages where runners are welcomed by locals offering traditional coffee, pomegranates, and dates — a gesture of the Omani hospitality that has become a hallmark of the race.
Since its inception, Himam has contributed to building over 210 kilometres of connected trail networks and training 450 local volunteers in logistics, safety, and event operations. These efforts have not only elevated the standard of race organisation but also established Oman as a game-changing destination for outdoor adventure tourism.
“The Himam Trail Run Race is more than a race — it’s a movement that celebrates endurance, community, and the spirit of Oman,” said the organising team. “As we prepare for the 2025 edition, we look forward to welcoming returning athletes and new participants to experience what makes our mountains truly unforgettable.”
