February 26, 2023The Himam Trail Run Race, held from December 1st to 3rd, 2022, has been a resounding success with over 1750 runners from 41 countries participating in the challenging but rewarding event. The trails included the Al Hajar Ultra 100km, The Adventure 55km, and the Start-up Challenge 25km, each of which offered a unique and exciting experience for runners of all skill levels.
Dr Zahir Al Riyami, President of the Organizing Committee, released a statement expressing his gratitude and pride in the success of the event. “We are thrilled to see such a diverse and talented group of runners come together to challenge themselves and push their limits on the beautiful trails of Al Hamra, Jabal Akhdar, and Birkat Al Mouz,” he said. “The Himam Trail Run Race has truly been a testament to the spirit of determination and camaraderie, and we are grateful to everyone who participated and made it possible.”
The main event, the Al Hajar Ultra 100km, saw a fierce competition among the top runners, with Rachid Elmorabty from Morocco ultimately coming out on top. Elmorabty, who has a long history of success in ultra-marathon events, praised the challenging and well-organized course. “I am honored to have won the Himam Trail Run Race and grateful for the opportunity to test my endurance on such a demanding course,” he said. “The support and encouragement from the organizers and other runners was truly motivating, and I look forward to participating in future events.”
The Adventure 55km and Start-up Challenge 25km also saw strong performances from runners across the globe.

In addition to the main races, organizers also added shorter distances and kids runs, including 10km, 5km, and 2km, to the event. These races provided an opportunity for runners of all ages and abilities to participate and enjoy the beauty of the trails. The kids runs were especially popular, with young runners from the local communities joining in the fun and excitement.
The Himam Trail Run Race not only provided a thrilling experience for the runners, but it also had a positive impact on the local communities of Al Hamra, Jabal Akhdar, and Birkat Al Mouz. The event brought in a significant amount of tourism and economic activity, and the organizers made a conscious effort to support local businesses and initiatives.
The Himam Trail Run Race is organised by Al Sahwa Team under the umbrella of Nizwa Club and the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Youth. It is made possible through the generous support by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, Oman Athletics Association, OMRAN, Visit Oman, the SMEs Development Authority, Oman LNG, Al Safa Foods, Mazoon Dairy, Oman Scouts and Guides, and Golden Tulip Nizwa. The event is also supported by Aventuras as the trusted partner for trail and running gear. These companies provided vital resources and assistance in the planning and execution of the event, and their contributions were greatly appreciated by the organizing committee and the runners.
As the Himam Trail Run Race comes to a close, organizers are already looking ahead to the 2023 event. Dates for the next race will be announced soon, and runners are encouraged to start training and preparing for another exciting and challenging experience on the trails.
