Jabal Akhdhar Trail Run Returns for Its Second Edition
August 13, 2024The Himam Trail Run Race concluded another thrilling event on September 6, 2024, as part of the Al Dhakhiliya Governorate festival, the Jabal Akhdar Summer. This year saw a significant increase in participation, with 723 runners—371 adults and 352 kids—from 26 nationalities, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the festival. Known as the “Taster Runs” ahead of the main Himam Trail Run Race in December, the event offered an exciting experience for both adults and children, encouraging the entire community to participate.
The 10-kilometer race for adults started from the Amir of Qatar castle, situated above the village of Sayq. The course led participants through a scenic mountain trail, winding through the farms of Al-Shareija, and ending in the picturesque village of Al-Ain. Runners continued along a falaj path, ascending to Al-Ain village, and then onto Al Aqr village. The race concluded with participants sprinting down a rugged dirt path to the Dusit D2 resort, where the finish line and the prize-giving ceremony were located.
In the 10KM Race, Nader Abdullah (Sudan) secured first place with a time of 52:19, followed by Saleh Al-Saidi (Oman) in second place at 53:03, and Ahmad Ali Alamri (Oman) in third with a time of 53:23.
In the female category, Arlene Cowgill (UK) claimed the top spot, clocking in at 1:13:42, followed by Ghina Kilzar (Lebanon) at 1:22:59, and Hanan Jahmani (Oman) at 1:23:42.
The second race, a 4-kilometer event, welcomed children to embark on an adventure starting from Hail Al-Yaman. As they ran through the embrace of nature, the finish line at the park was filled with cheers from a supportive crowd, celebrating the young runners’ spirit and determination.
For the Kids’ Run, in the female category, Juhaine Al Toobi (Oman) took first place with a time of 17:54, while Ahood Adnan Al-Hinai (Oman) came in second at 22:39, and Rana Suleiman Al Toobi (Oman) in third with a time of 25:38.
In the male category, Yousef Al Riyami (Oman) won the first position with a time of 16:38, followed by Mohammed Ahmed Al Amri (Oman) at 17:35, and Al-Yazan Al Shraiqi (Oman) at 17:46.
The prize-giving ceremony was held at the Dusit D2 resort, where the runners were honored for their achievements. The ceremony was under the patronage of His Excellency Engineer Hassan Al-Nabhani, a member of the Shura Council representing the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar.
Beyond celebrating athleticism, the Taster Runs showcased the spirit of unity, camaraderie, and a shared passion for adventure, drawing runners from around the world. With this exhilarating event complete, anticipation now builds for the main Himam Trail Run Race in December 05-07, inviting participants to explore the breathtaking landscapes of the Al Hajar Mountains.
